The Prodigy is the only bed in the Leggett & Platt product line that has 600 pound rated DC Whisper-Quiet Motors. These motors have the highest grade components as well as the highest level of soundproofing of ANY adjustable bed. Leggett & Platt licenses other outlets to sell their “re-badged” beds, like the S-Cape sold in the Sleep Number® Stores. The remote might say Sleep Number®, but it’s a Leggett & Platt. However, Leggett & Platt licenses the Prodigy to no one. It’s their flagship model and only available through Authorized Dealers like Richmond Bedding.
No corners were cut in the design, construction or features of the Prodigy Bed. It’s not just a place to sleep but to watch TV or read for hours on end without fatigue. Users report one of their favorite features is the snore function. If your partner is snoring, all you have to do is press a button and your partner raises seven degrees to quiet their snoring, then stays in that position for 30 minutes. Then the Prodigy slowly lowers your partner to the level position. Quite often these 30 minutes are enough time to allow you to fall asleep.
The remote controls the head up and down, foot up and down, as well as the head and foot massage. You can set an alarm on the remote to have the head or foot massage wake you up. You can set the Sleep Timer while watching TV or reading a book, so if you fall asleep the bed will lower you into the sleeping position automatically.
Ever lost a remote control before? The Prodigy features a remote control locator feature on the bed which will set off an alarm on the remote. This helps you find the remote when it’s been misplaced.
There’s also an “app” for the Prodigy. You can download it to your iPhone, iTouch or iPad which will turn your Apple device into a wireless remote control giving you full control of the Prodigy without having to keep track of another remote control. This option requires the Leggett & Platt Wi-Fi Bridge and will cost between $200 to $400 depending on your model.
If you’ve been considering a Tempur-Pedic® or Sleep Number® Mattress, make sure you read the next section……
We sell more Prodigy Models than all other models combined! Why is that? Most of our customers have been to the Sleep Number or Tempur-Pedic Store. They’ve looked at a re-badged S-Cape Model with a cheaper 450 pound lift rated DC motor at the Sleep Number Store. They’ve also been asked to pay $3000 or more for that S-Cape. They’ve seen the Tempur-Pedic Chinese produced Ergo-Motion Base and been shocked by the price. Then they find us and discover they can buy the Prodigy Model from Richmond Bedding for much less. So they decide to get the Prodigy, the best adjustable bed made today, AND save money in the process. The circumstances make this an easy win-win decision for most people.

We used to accept credit cards online but a few years back our processor had what they call a “data breach”. That’s a nice term for: “We lost a bunch of Credit Card information”. It took us the better part of three weeks to call our customers who may have been affected to let them know that cancelling their card and getting a new one was a good idea. Most of our customers understood that we didn’t cause the problem, but a few were anything but understanding.
Not wanting to EVER go through that experience again, we decided to process Credit Cards over the phone. Since we began conducting business this way we haven’t had a single problem. So if you want this Leggett & Platt Bed (or anything else we ship), just call us. But please, don’t feel like you have to wait until you’re ready to buy to call. Call us ANY time with ANY questions you may have! We’re here to help, not just process orders.
This one area seems to cause a LOT of confusion with consumers so we thought it would be a good idea to address it here. AC (Alternating Current) is what you have coming to your home from the electric company. It’s what’s in your wall sockets. Some things in your home (for example: lightbulbs) run on this AC Power. Other items in your home (like your TV) need DC Power. If an appliance needs DC power it has an electrical circuit known as a “Rectifier” that converts the AC to DC.
If you buy an adjustable bed with AC Motors the Control Board will simply supply your homes existing AC power to the motors. If your adjustable bed uses DC Motors the Control Board will supply the “Rectified” AC Voltage which is now DC Voltage to the motors. This is a LOT less complicated than it sounds. These “Rectifier” circuits have been around forever and are known to provide dependable service for decades.
So what’s best, AC or DC Motors? Here’s where things get confusing because it depends on which Leggett & Platt Model we’re talking about.
If we’re talking about EVERY Model EXCEPT the Prodigy you want the AC Motors. Why? They have a higher lift rating (600 pounds) and will operate at a lower temperature and therefore last longer. The DC Motors have a lower lift rating (450 pounds), will operate at a higher temperature and will not last as long.
So what are the trade offs of this increased power rating? AC Motors will be a little noisier than DC motors. It’s just the nature of the beast. If you’ve ever heard the slight “rumble” of a garage door opener from a couple of rooms away then you’ll know what an AC Adjustable Bed sounds like. The DC Models have a slightly quieter sound which is a higher pitch.
Why is the Prodigy different? It has DC motors that are NOT SHARED with any of the other models. These are specially constructed 600 pound DC Lift Motors. They have the highest precision parts as well as the highest level of sound-proofing. With the Prodigy you’re getting a long lasting, high power motor that’s the quietest in the industry. It really is the best of all worlds.
