Richmond Mattresses

We offer absolutely the best mattresses for your money in Richmond. We've visited all the "chain" stores in the area and we know what they offer and what they try to charge. Most of our customers who have been elsewhere are VERY glad they find our store.

We don't offer sale prices that are going away tomorrow or any of the other tricks you'll encounter at the big stores. We simply offer a great price every day without all the hype and hoopla. We don't participate in the "pretend" sales all the other guys have on Labor Day, Memorial Day, President's Day, Black Friday or whatever they decide to call their "sale".

The sale prices they offer during these "special occasions" are actually the same price you can buy their mattresses at every day. They just mark them up the night before and offer you the same price but now it's a sale. We prefer to just keep it simple, offer a great value to everyone, every day. We think you'll actually enjoy your experience shopping with us.

And, we post all the prices of our mattresses on this website. So when you come to see us you'll know we're not playing any games with our pricing.

These mattresses are listed in order of Highest Quality First. Please scroll down the page for more economical models.

AVAILABLE ONLY AT RICHMOND BEDDING

Richmond Bedding has been chosen by TheraPedic International as Richmond’s only Exclusive Seller of TheraPedic Mattresses. In our opinion the TheraPedic Brand has some of the highest quality mattresses available at ANY price. And because of our low overhead business model, we can definitely give you more mattress for your money than any other retailer in the Greater Richmond Area.

DESCRIPTION AND SPECIFICATIONS

This model solves an age old problem for people who prefer a supportive mattress with a soft comfort layer on top. What problem is that? Body impressions! You go to the big name mattress store and buy the soft topped mattress that feels great. Then within a few months to a couple of years you have a “soft spot” or “trench” in the mattress where you sleep every night. This problem has frustrated soft mattress buyers forever. The problem comes about because manufacturer’s use lightweight, lower quality foam to give you the real soft feel you’re looking for in the showroom. But these lightweight foams won’t take your weight night after night, week after week without becoming compressed.

Now there’s a solution – MicroCoils! MicroCoils are very small, steel pocketed springs used in the comfort layer of the mattress. This MicroCoil layer is substituted for a low weight foam which is used by most manufacturers to give you the nice soft feeling mattress you’re looking for. However, the MicroCoils won’t suffer from body impressions. The steel just keeps springing back night after night, week after week. You really CAN’T wear them out! These Microcoils even stand up to the weight of larger, heavier sleepers. Not only does this mattress have MicroCoils, but the support layer springs are independently pocketed coils. Pocketed coils reduce motion transfer so you and your partner both get a restful night’s sleep. This is truly a mattress of the highest quality, it just comes down to personal preference. We encourage you to go to the Major Stores, lay on a few of their highest priced models and then come try these mattresses. We know you’ll agree that they’re just as nice as the REALLY expensive models at the big stores, but a lot easier on your budget.

Below is a PDF Document showing the results of a durability test. The test included regular Poly Foams (like you'd find in a Sealy, Simmons, Serta or Stearns), Visco Foam (like Tempurpedic), Latex and Micro Coils. These tests are performed using a Rollator Machine. You can go to YouTube and see how these machines "torture" a mattress. Putting a mattress through 100,000 cycles using a Rollator is the equivalent of 10 ~ 15 years of normal household usage, depending on user's sleeping patterns and weight.

You can see by the test results that no other mattress material will resist body impressions longer than MicroCoils. NOTHING!

About Our Mattresses

All our mattresses are assembled in the US from 100% US manufactured components. If Sealy, Serta or Simmons made this mattress and you found it in one of the Major Mattress Stores (you know who we’re talking about), it would retail for at least twice what we charge. And it would NEVER be featured on one of their every-holiday, every-weekend, half price sales. We can offer this for much less than the “chain” stores because we’re not paying a factory rep, a regional manager, a store manager, the national office, TV advertising, newspaper advertising, a commissioned salesperson, worker’s compensation and on and on…. At Richmond Bedding you’re paying for the mattress ONLY, with a little bit of overhead so we can stay in operation and give our customers the excellent service they’ve come to expect.

WHY WE SELL THERAPEDIC MATTRESSES

The paragraph and chart below are taken directly from another website called “The Mattress Underground”. Their website is dedicated to providing accurate and unbiased information for consumers to assist them in making an educated decision when it comes time to buy a new mattess. Their site also contains a LOT of information that the larger mattress manufacturers would prefer you didn’t know. Check it out if you have a few minutes.

Major Mattress Manufacturers – Top 15

"There are numerous mentions throughout this website to “major” mattress manufacturers and suggestions to avoid many of them for many reasons including their lack of transparency about the quality of the materials they use in their mattresses, the use of lower quality materials, or because they are poor value compared to many other smaller independent manufacturers who make similar mattresses with the same or better quality, are transparent about their materials and designs, and sell for better prices. This article will give you a better idea of which manufacturers are in the top 16 ranked by size, which of these to avoid, and which may be “possibilities” in terms of their transparency, quality, and relative value. compared to other larger manufacturers.Between them, these top 15 manufacturers control 90.3% of the market and the top 5 of these (which are all in the AVOID group) control 74.9% of the market. This leaves several hundred smaller manufacturers that make better quality and value mattress that don’t have the budget to spend on massive advertising and that are often only available locally or regionally to share the remaining 10%. One of the goals of this website is to help consumers identify and find the manufacturers who are open and transparent about the materials in their mattresses and are focused on making and selling higher quality and value mattresses. These top 15 (+2) are also “ranked” according to the likelihood that you will be able to find out accurate information about the quality of the materials in their mattresses."

RANKING:

AVOID: Your chances of finding out accurate or up to date details of the materials in their mattresses are not high enough to consider them or they are not good value compared to other similar mattresses.

SMALL POSSIBILITY: In most cases the information about the materials in their mattresses are not available but there may be a few exceptions for some mattresses.

SOME POSSIBILITY: The information about the materials in their mattresses are sometimes available and sometimes not depending on the type of mattress and/or on the licensee that makes their mattress.

GOOD POSSIBILITY: in most cases information about the quality of the materials in their mattresses are available but it will also depend on the type of mattress and/or on the licensee who makes them.

THE TOP 15 MATTRESS MANUFACTURERS:

1. SERTA: Owned by private equity group (which also owns Simmons). Tends not to be Transparent. AVOID

2. SEALY: (including Bassett Bedding and Stearns & Foster). Public corporation (which also owns Tempurpedic). Tends not to be transparent. AVOID

3. SIMMONS: Owned by private equity group (which also owns Serta). Tends not to be transparent AVOID

4. TEMPURPEDIC: Public corporation (which also owns Sealy). Sometimes transparent but poor value. Transparency is being reduced or eliminated and material quality/density is concurrently being reduced. AVOID

5. SELECT COMFORT: (Airbeds). Public corporation. Tends not to be transparent. AVOID

6. CORSICANA: Private corporation. Tends not to be transparent with rare exceptions. SMALL POSSIBILITY

7. COMFORT SOLUTIONS: (including King Koil). Licensee group. None of the licensees tend to be transparent with rare exceptions. SMALL POSSIBILITY

8. THERAPEDIC: Licensee group. Most licensee factories are transparent about the materials in their mattresses and may have better quality/value than others in the "major manufacturer" group. GOOD POSSIBILITY

9. ENGLANDER: Licensee group. Some licensee factories are transparent about the materials in their mattresses and may have better quality/value than others in the "major manufacturer" group. SOME POSSIBILITY

10. RESTONIC: Licensee group. Most licensee factories are transparent about the materials in their mattresses and may have better quality/value than others in the "major manufacturer" group. GOOD POSSIBILITY

11. KINGSDOWN: Private corporation. Tends not to be transparent. AVOID

12. SYMBOL:  Private corporation. Tends to be transparent about some of their mattresses and not others and may have better quality/value than the major manufacturers in this group. SOME POSSIBILITY

13. E.S. KLUFT (and AIRELOOM): Private ownership. Tends not to be transparent. AVOID

14. ASHLEY FURNITURE: Private ownership. Transparent about some of their materials but tends to use lower quality materials. AVOID

15. SPRING AIR: Licensee group. Most licensee factories are not transparent with rare exceptions in some areas of the country. SMALL POSSIBILITY

SOUTHERLAND: Private corporation. Was #15 on the previous years list. Sometimes transparent and may have better quality/value than some of the major manufacturers in this group. SOME POSSIBILITYECLIPSE / EASTMAN HOUSE: Privately owned but made by a licensee group. Probably should have been ranked as #15 on the previous years list on their audited numbers. They have told me that they are transparent about all their materials and components as long as the retailer that sells them calls the factory. GOOD POSSIBILITY

Beyond these top 15 (+2) manufacturers there are hundreds of smaller manufacturers that are either local or regional or in some cases national which are well worth considering if they are fully transparent about the materials they use in their mattresses. Some of these sell factory direct and some are sold wholesale through stores around the country. Many of these smaller independent manufacturers provide much better quality and value for consumers but in all cases knowing the specific details of the materials and components in a mattress is the only way to make meaningful comparisons. Blind purchases should always be avoided regardless of which manufacturer makes the mattress.Spending your time and efforts with more transparent manufacturers or with retailers who will provide you with the information you need to make informed choices will save you a great deal of time and the frustration of trying (often unsuccessfully) to track down mattress specifications so you can make informed buying decisions and meaningful quality and value comparisons with other mattresses.A manufacturer or retailer that provides the details of the materials in their mattresses is making a statement that "we want you to know what you are buying" and is always much more deserving of your time and efforts than those which don't.

DESCRIPTION AND SPECIFICATIONS

Here is one of ever increasingly hard to find Two-Sided Mattresses. This one is a double sided Eurotop (closed seam pillowtop) that is a medium softness. The cover is 100% Organic Cotton.

If you visit one of the Major Mattress Stores and ask about two-sided mattresses you’ll be told one or two “stories”. First, a lot of sales people will tell you that they’re not being made anymore. That isn’t true. The other “story” they tell is that there have been such unbelievable advances in spring and foam technology that a one-sided mattress will last as long as the old two-sided models everyone used to buy. Guess what? That isn’t true either.

The truth is this. If you have two sides to wear out, it will take you twice as long. After all it’s the foams that break down not the steel springs.
